Reasons to adopt a senior pet in Longmont

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and our team of pet door installation experts in Longmont are excited to give you a few of the reasons to consider adopting a senior pet.

They're Instant Companions

Many people believe that senior pets who’ve been adopted seem to know how fortunate they are that you’ve given them a home when no one else would. They’ll spend every second from the moment you take them home with you showing their love and gratitude, cementing an instant bond between the two of you.

They're Less Energetic Than Younger Pets

Most older pets are well past their chaotic stage of never-ending energy and varying levels of destruction. While they’ll still appreciate a daily walk and some playtime, they’re also completely happy to lounge around and curl up next to you. They won’t require the same amount of monitoring and cleaning up after as young pets, so if you’ve been hesitant to adopt due to a busy schedule you’ll find that their mellow temperaments will fit perfectly into your household.

Old Pets Can Still Learn New Tricks

Though older pets have likely mastered basic training points, that doesn’t mean they can’t still learn new ones. Pets can be trained at any age! You might even find that your senior pet will be even more keen to learn than a younger pet would normally be. In fact, senior pets have a better grasp on attention and comprehension than their younger counterparts, making it easier to teach them skills such as obedience commands or how to use a pet door.

Senior Pets Need Homes Just as Much as Younger Pets

Every pet deserves a home, no matter their age, and senior pets are just as much in need of loving forever homes as new young pets. Many of them once had some kind of home, but for whatever case they were given up to a shelter and are now in desperate need of a home through no fault of their own. If you’re reluctant to adopt an older pet for fear of a painful loss sooner rather than later, remember that the quality of the time you spend together is much more important than the quantity of it, and the bond that you will form with your senior pet is one that you will cherish forever.

You Can Save a Life

When you adopt a senior pet you’re literally saving a life, which is the most rewarding part! Shelters are quick to get overcrowded, and older pets are often overlooked in favor of young puppies and kitties, unfortunately making them among the first to be euthanized when the shelter reaches their capacity. Adopting a senior pet will ensure that they spend their golden years in the loving, comfortable home they’ve been craving for so long.

So many shelters are filled with senior pets that are repeatedly overlooked and left to continue hoping. When you adopt one of these loving pets, you give them a second chance at life with a new home and family! Do you have any questions? Another way to care for your senior dog or cat is installing a pet door to give them safe outdoor access even when you aren't home. Got a pet door for my vinyl sliding glass door, it's a game-changer. Pricier than an insert, but way more convenient and totally worth it. Took my dog a couple weeks to get fully comfortable with it (she's a scaredy cat and hadn't used a dog door before), but now she's freely going in and out on her own without letting the hot/cold air or bugs into the house. I opted for the Endura flap, partly because of the lifetime warrantee, and I can see why, it's clearly built to last. Joe did the install, he was friendly, professional, and super helpful. Overall awesome experience, if I'm ever in the market for another pet door I'm definitely going with them again!

Joe is seriously the best! He was so incredibly friendly. He covered everything he was doing with each step. He also literally left everything better than he found it. Usually with contractors in the past I have to spend some time cleaning up after they leave. Joe cleaned up everything. Also, was really great with the doggos. Thanks again for everything, Joe!

I would like to give this company five out of five stars because their communication is excellent, they worked with our schedule, the price was fair, and the quality is impeccable. We had no issues from start to finish, and we would definitely work with them again!

I just received a pet door at my house. I am gone long hours and needed my dog to have a way to go outside. This door solved all the problems, plus I am able to open my sliding glass door all the way. The door took about 5-6 week to specially make and my installer Joe was in contact with me the whole time. When he installed the door he gave me the very best in service and the sliding glass door is amazing. The doors are not cheap but well worth the money and comes with 10 year warranty on the glass and lifetime on the dog door. I would recommend Best in glass pet doors to anyone!
